I formed Akoio and assembled an incredible team of design and manufacturing experts to help me reimagine the hearing aid user experience. We set out to make hearing aid use more efficient, accessible, and stylish.
This year, I am thankful for the continued journey of discovery in the area of sound and wellness. Our soundscape changes everything, and managing our soundscape can impact our mental and physical health.
Akoio developed the Soundscape Journal to help you identify sounds in your environment and how they affect you. In just one week, Leah learned about positive sounds that enhance her mood and identified noises she did not even realize were bothersome. With greater awareness comes empowerment to make changes.
Proactively managing our soundscapes can be a difficult task. In fact, sometimes, the very same sounds can be both comforting and distressing in different situations. New Akoio staff writer, Leah Pruitt, shares her adventures trying to control her personal soundscape during a recent vacation.
Akoio is honored to be a certified Disability-Owned Business Enterprise (DOBE). The certifying body, DisabilityIN.org, returned the honor by making Bill Schiffmiller, CEO of Akoio, a semifinalist in its 2022 DOBE Perfect Pitch Challenge.
Akoio recognized the need for education in this area. Akoio created a new series of hearing guides called “Managing Your Soundscapes”. This series educates and supports people in their ability to actively control their soundscapes. Like our “Talk About Hearing Loss” series, Akoio makes these guides free to the public.
